Every year I take a week off during the winter holidays, and during the summer. Since we’re already deep into the summer, I figure now is as good a time as any to schedule my week off.
So with that being said, my annual summer break will begin this upcoming Monday, August 2. The Legacy of Dominic Deegan will resume updating that following Monday, August 9. I’ll put up some filler to remind you of my time off, too.
I could have scheduled this a week or two later as a nice “chapter break” for the conclusion of The Library Card and the start of the next chapter, but next week is more appropriate for me, personally. My wife is returning to her family’s annual summer vacation spot next week after missing it last year (thanks to the pandemic), and she’s taking our son with her. I, on the other hand, will be remaining here at home not only to look after our needy cats, but to recharge my batteries. I want as few responsibilities as possible during this rare, extended time to myself. I feel like I’ve earned that.
But I’m sure I’ll get some work done anyway. It will be nice to be able to stretch my work day out across the length of a day again, instead of trying to cram in as much productivity as possible during my brief windows of summertime me-time. When you’re the parent who watches the kid during the day, your day is no longer your own. I’ve honestly forgotten what it’s like to make a comic page at a leisurely pace. It will be good to revisit that.
