It's about time. December 16, 2011 Posted by Mookie
No big drama. No jokes. No nail-biting cliffhanger. Not even any links to previous comics down here in the news box! Just the moment that everyone who attends a wedding, no matter how impromptu, looks forward to: That moment where two people who love one another seal their union with a kiss.

Would it have been more appropriate to have this comic be the very last update of 2011? Possibly. Dominic and Luna's engagement has been a long one and Gregory's "it's about time" remark reminded us all of that. This could have very easily been the last update of 2011 and it would have been an effective end to the year... but there's still one more week of updates to go, which means there's still a little more to come. Will it be joyous or ominous? Only one way to find out.

That's all from me for now.
Rock on and have a nice weekend!
Kiss the BRIIIIIIIDE!! December 15, 2011 Posted by Mookie
I enjoy these comics that close out the year. The opportunity to do memorable things arises, like getting Dominic and Luna engaged and, as we see in today's update, finally getting them married... albeit in a very impromptu (and metal) manner.

And as Van Canto has proven, you don't always need guitars to be metal.

As far as Luanian philosophy and the prophet Luana goes, we'll go into more detail about them next year. For now, I think it was enough for poor Jayden to finally speak again.

That's all from me for now.

Today's comic was originally going to have Luna gushing over Dominic in the same manner that he did for her in yesterday's update. I was going to have it mirror a similar moment of gushing to Melna from It's My First Day, but ultimately I didn't think it worked for today's comic.

I think this is funnier. A cry of this magnitude, when your tears are so thick that they obscure your vision and your sobs are so heartfelt that you can't form a coherent sentence, is good for you every now and again. And hopefully it's because of something really happy, like realizing the depth of your love for another person.

And while she doesn't cry as often (or as comically as she's doing today), Luna has had a lot to cry about:
Realizing her mother doesn't love her.
A bout with low self-esteem.
Thinking she's worthless and weak.
Losing her sister.
Realizing how brutally she was almost killed by Urban Eddie.
Betrayed by someone she considered a friend.
A good cry with an old friend.
Discovering an unpleasant truth.

She's come a long way.

That's all from me for now.
Rock... *sniff* ...on!
Awww. December 13, 2011 Posted by Mookie
If you thought yesterday's comic was sickeningly sweet, I'm sure you'll find today's even worse (or better, if you like this sort of thing). And just to warn you, it only gets worse tomorrow (or better).

Dominic has certainly gone through quite a change himself over the years. He used to be a grouch who felt bad for optimists and generally hated the world. But I'm a firm believer that regular snuggles (and more) with someone you care about will cheer anyone up.

That's all from me for now.

Affection and Animal Man. December 12, 2011 Posted by Mookie
You can pretty much expect gooey romance like this from now until my annual holiday break at the end of next week. So if toothache-inducing sweetness isn't your cup of tea, I'd recommend just coming back next year. I was planning on having more displays of romance and affection throughout the year, but more Beastly matters took the spotlight.

And for those of you who like linky reminders to past events in the comic...
Dominic almost died in the Storm of Souls.
Luna was actually dead for a few moments during The March Across Maltak.

Finally, I didn't get a chance to hit the comic book shop until this weekend and picked up last week's offerings of comic books. Of everything I picked up, I must emphasize how much I love the new ANIMAL MAN series. I rant and rave about it every month and I can only barely contain myself from doing so again. Like Atomic Robo, I highly recommend this series. It's an excellent read.

That's all from me for now.

Good thing he looked. December 9, 2011 Posted by Mookie
I was originally going to show a little of what Dominic saw when he used his second sight to view his future wedding, but in the end I decided that your imagination is much more gruesome than anything I could portray. So I leave Dominic and Luna's blood-soaked wedding horror to you.

There are only two weeks of comics left before I go on my annual holiday break. The last comic of 2011 will be on Friday, December 23 and will return on Monday, January 2, 2012. I'll be spending that week with my family and friends, and gearing up for what I hope will be a memorable year for Dominic and company. There may or may not be crummy filler up during that time.

That's all from me for now.
Rock on and have a nice weekend!
Strength, scrapped stories and scarves. December 8, 2011 Posted by Mookie
If this comic was written a few years ago, Luna would have spent a few panels in sorrow, regret and tears as she dwelt upon her dysfunctional and dangerous family. Now it's just a bitter stare into the distance, a snide remark, and moving on to happier subjects... or at least trying to, what with The Beast on her mind. Luna's gotten much stronger over the course of the comic's history.

Luna's father has only been mentioned once, and a long time ago in the comic's history. He was going to be the center of a story called An Unlikely Visitor, but I ultimately scrapped that story. A bit of Dominic Deegan Trivia for you there.

Dominic Deegan scarves sold out in under ten minutes yesterday! If you didn't receive a refund and an apologetic email from me shortly after you ordered, then your order went through and your scarf should be in the mail by the end of this week.

That's all from me for now.

Beware of scarf. December 7, 2011 Posted by Mookie
UPDATE: Holy babylony. My very limited number of scarves sold out in under ten minutes. If you placed an order after I ran out, I will be refunding your money as fast as PayPal can process it.

DOMINIC DEEGAN SCARVES go on sale today in the SEER'S CATALOG at 3PM US EASTERN STANDARD TIME. There is a very limited supply of scarves so please limit your purchases to one per customer. If you place your order and the scarves have sold out, you will receive a full refund. Keep an eye on my Twitter feed for the latest news.

Before anyone sends me any angry emails about this, let me go on the record to say that I don't think everyone who has a traditional wedding has had a boring, sad day and that the only type of wedding that's really joyous or meaningful is one that's really crazy or full of outrageous flair. I've been to plenty of traditional weddings that had a lot of personality and were a lot of fun, but there are some people for whom that sort of thing isn't right... like Donovan and Miranda.

New comic books come out today. With so many monthly titles falling from my reading list, there was very little to speak of last week. Literally. I got one comic book last Wednesday. Granted, it was the new issue of Thunderbolts and that is always a good read, but it didn't warrant me taking up space here in the news box to talk about it. Here's hoping this week will prove a little more substantial.

That's all from me for now.

Grandma guilt. December 6, 2011 Posted by Mookie
While Gwendolin Deegan may have been skillfully wielding guilt against Miranda, she did have a point. Elven music is an intense experience, as Dominic and Luna discovered during their vacation.

Dominic Deegan scarves go on sale tomorrow, Wednesday, December 7th at 3pm US Eastern Standard Time in the SEER'S CATALOG. They are in very limited supply so be sure to get yours while supplies last! It may be a cold winter and you don't want to be caught unprepared!

Me? I'm going to stock up on all the delicious seasonal stouts, porters and winter ales that my favorite breweries have to offer. I love good beer.

Scarf sale! December 5, 2011 Posted by Mookie
On WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 7 at 3pm US EASTERN STANDARD TIME, which is two days from now, a very limited number of Dominic Deegan scarves will go on sale in the SEER'S CATALOG. Be sure to get them while supplies last!

I will also be taking my annual Christmas / New Year vacation at the end of this month. The final comic for 2011 will be on Friday, December 23 and will resume updating on Monday, January 2, 2012. I take this break every year to spend time with my family (especially now that I've got two of them) and generally enjoy the holidays. I hope you folks do, too.

Elope? NOPE. December 2, 2011 Posted by Mookie
There's a little bit of my real life seeping into today's comic, but it has nothing to do with my relationship with my new in-laws... and I'm not just saying that because I know at least one of them is reading this.

The "...still want to be my husband?" line is something Alyssa and I used to say to each other whenever we were feeling any wedding-related stress (just replace "husband" with "wife" for my line). It was our little way of reassuring one another that we were really committed to this whole marriage thing. I think it's worked out pretty well so far.

It's December, so that means it's time for a holiday special in the SEER'S CATALOG! This year there will be a very limited number of Dominic Deegan scarves for sale, guaranteed to keep you warm in the coming winter months! Scarves will go on sale WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 7th at a time to be announced on Monday.

That's all from me for now.
Rock on and have a nice weekend!
A terrible, terrible weapon... December 1, 2011 Posted by Mookie
I hope this clears things up regarding Miranda's maiden name and Donovan's parental situation. His elven upbringing was mentioned VERY briefly to Thuen Gor, but he never got to finish his sentence.

As for guilt? It's an amazing, horrible weapon when wielded by the right (or wrong) person. I feel I'm a bit of an expert on the subject, having been raised in an Italian Catholic family and hanging out with many Jewish friends as a child. I can tell you this much about Italians, Catholics and Jews... they all love guilt and aren't afraid to use it.

In my experience there are two kinds of guilt trips one can receive. The first is when you've clearly done something wrong and the guilt trip is meant to make you feel exponentially worse. The second kind is when someone has perceived that you've done something wrong and lashes you with such a deeply cutting verbal barb that, for a few moments, you really believe that you're guilty of whatever they're accusing you of.

Donovan got hit with the second kind.

Comic books, illusions and vikings. November 30, 2011 Posted by Mookie
UPDATE: I've been getting a lot of emails about this, so I thought I'd set the record straight. There is no mistake in today's comic. "Deegan" is Miranda's maiden name and Donovan took it when they got married. This will be further explained in tomorrow's comic.

There's not a whole lot to speak of today down here in the news box, so I'll keep things short and sweet:

- Strado Deegan and illusionists in general are fun. You'll never see one skulking around in a black cloak being sullen.

- New comic books hit the shelves today. Let's see which titles hold my interest (i.e. Superman, Aquaman, Animal Man, Wonder Woman, Blue Beetle) and which ones will fall to the wayside (i.e. Justice League: International, Justice League: Dark, The Savage Hawkman).

- I've been playing a lot of SKYRIM lately and it makes me want to play all my viking-themed metal, as loud as possible, all at once. And here's an awesome metal cover of the Skyrim theme.

That's all from me for now.

On weddings and grandparents. November 29, 2011 Posted by Mookie
Miranda's parents have only been mentioned very briefly in the comic's past. Once as tragedy, and once as comedy.

Speaking of weddings, one month ago today I married the love of my life. It looked a little something like this:

It was a Halloween wedding. I was a monster. She was a fairy princess. And yes, her bouquet was made of lollipops.

The lesson here?
Do whatever the hell you want on your wedding day.

Interdimensional Evil Eye. November 28, 2011 Posted by Mookie
Miranda's "evil eye" has been terrorizing people for years around here.

She's used it during the Storm of Souls...

...then three times during the War in Hell...

...and it's even brought a spellwolf to his knees.

Dominic and Luna have had a very long engagement. I think it may be time to address that, one way or another.

Otherwise I hope everyone has recovered from the Thanksgiving weekend! As for me, I've got a fridge full of leftovers that won't last long. Nom nom.

That's all from me for now.
Rock on.
