Pfft. December 6, 2007 Posted by Mookie
Blech.
The more I looked at that wallpaper when I woke up this morning, the more I hated it. I'll have a new free wallpaper up that doesn't look so much like crap when I get back from the NYAF.

Have a nice weekend, everyone!
Holidays are Hell. December 6, 2007 Posted by Mookie
I'm off to New York today to get ready for the NEW YORK ANIME FEST, but before I go there's just a couple of things I wanted to mention.

First of all, the Fan Art pages have been updated. This update includes not only the usual stellar and flattering work you folks grace me with, but the last-minute filler submissions I didn't use a few weeks ago as well as a boatload of fan art given to me at conventions that I criminally forgot to scan and upload. There's lots of great new stuff to look at, so do yourself a favor and take a gander at all the new stuff!

It's entirely possible that I missed a few pieces of artwork given to me at conventions and I'll scan them as I find them. My apartment is a messy mess.

December's Donation Wallpaper is up, only you don't have to donate to get your hands on it. I do this every December, so I hope you like my "Happy Helliday" gift to you.

And finally, the comic should be updating fine this weekend while I'm at the New York Anime Fest, except that Sunday's comic won't be in color. I've just got no room to pack all my markers for the trip.

That's all from me for now!
Oh the weather outside is... holy crap! December! December 3, 2007 Posted by Mookie
Holy babylony! It's December already? What the hell happened to November? Did I accidentally eat it at Thanksgiving? Oh man! I gotta start buying Christmas gifts! But that means going out in public and dealing with... consumers.

The big news this week is that this weekend I will be attending the maiden voyage of the NEW YORK ANIME FEST! I'll have copies of Seer's Digest and Ecstasy & Evil, not to mention a very limited number of Dominic Deegan scarves, which I sell at conventions only. I guarantee they'll keep you nice and warm in the coming winter months. Brrr.

The strip ought to update normally while I'm at the con this weekend. If anything changes I'll let y'all know as we get nearer to con time.

December's free holiday wallpaper should be up this week.
I'm also working on a fairly big update to the Fan Art pages. That should be up for your browsing pleasure by the middle of the week.

And finally, thanks to everyone who sent me nice e-mails regarding my remark about fighting depression last news post. I am humbled and undeserving of such kind words. You folks really are the greatest readers in the world.

That's all from me for now.
See you at the NEW YORK ANIME FEST!
Wrapped up, digested, and squishy. November 29, 2007 Posted by Mookie
Call me a sap, a terrible writer, an idealistic idiot or whatever you like. Call Dominic a cliche, a "Mary Sue" or whatever you like. Call Luna all sorts of cheesy names. Say whatever you want, but after months of writing the breakdown of a long-term relationship, and after months of fighting depression personally, I needed me a nice dose of sappy couple cuddling goodness. Mmm... squishy and sweet with just a hint of foreboding. Nom nom nom.

And if you think I wrapped things up with Siegfried a little too fast yesterday, just wait. The story isn't over yet (I would totally twirl my moustache now if I could grow one that didn't look like a dead caterpillar on my upper lip).

New comics didn't come out yesterday. They were delayed because of Thanksgiving. Last week. I want to be mad at the post office, but I can't blame them. I'm still working on my Thanksgiving leftovers, too. Nom nom nom. :)

That's all from me for now.
See you at the NEW YORK ANIME FESTIVAL next weekend!
If I can make it there, I'll make it anywhere. November 26, 2007 Posted by Mookie
I hope you folks had a healthy and happy Thanksgiving weekend. If you didn't celebrate any sort of food-related holiday, well, I hope you had a nice weekend anyway. I'm personally enjoying the pumpkin pie leftovers. Mmm.

The big news here is that next weekend I will be a Guest at the NEW YORK ANIME FEST! New York City is a great place and I'm excited to be going back for the maiden voyage of this impressive-looking convention. I'll be on hand with plenty of copies of SEER'S DIGEST and ECTSASY & EVIL, along with a very limited number of hand-made scarves. It's cold in New York in December, after all.

The strip should update normally that weekend while I'm at the con. I'll let y'all know if that changes as we get closer to con time.

Things are wrapping up around here with The Shadow of Siegfried storyline. After it ends I'll finish off the year with some light-hearted fare, then close up shop around here for the holidays so things can resume, for better or worse, in 2008.

That's all from me for now.
Burp. November 23, 2007 Posted by Mookie
Ugh. Man. Am I ever stuffed from Thanksgiving.

I worked on today's strip through the uncomfortable fullness that comes from having your face stuffed with food and a blistering headache. My mother, bless her, encouraged me to take the night off and put up some more filler... more filler being a hand-written note from her saying something along the lines of "he's got a headache!" As amusing a thought as that was, I decided to keep things moving along around here. We've had enough filler days.

I'm headed back to Boston today, braving the post-holiday traffic. Again, if you happen to be on the road and you see a well-fed, long-haired geek screaming like a lunatic at the cars around him and gnawing on the steering wheel, it's probably me.
Tofurkey Day delay. November 21, 2007 Posted by Mookie
There sure have been a lot of filler days around here lately, and I'm afraid there's going to be one more tomorrow for Thanksgiving.

With any luck most of you won't mind, since we'll all be stuffing our faces anyway. For those of you who do mind and/or don't celebrate Thanksgiving, the comic returns on Friday.

Now all I have to do is brave the traffic from Boston to New York. If you happen to be on the road and see a scrawny, long-haired geek screaming at the bumper-to-bumper traffic and gnawing on his steering wheel, that would be me.

In any case, have a Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
WTF?! NO COLOR?! November 18, 2007 Posted by Mookie
As you may notice, today's "big color Sunday strip" isn't in color, though it is just one big panel.

As it turns out tomorrow's strip is much more dramatic, so I decided that Monday's strip would be in color instead. It is, however, going to be a big splash image just like the Sunday strips are. Just so ya know.
I don't have anywhere to be! Rock! November 16, 2007 Posted by Mookie
Just a few things I'd like to mention to you folks as we gear up for the weekend. I'm looking forward to the weekend because it's the first weekend I won't be traveling this month, and I get to go to a Zombie Thanksgiving Party. Pretty metal.

Anyway, that has nothing to do with anything here.

November's Donation Wallpapers are up. There's one of Lord Danovich in his "moon knight" armor and the other one is Sir Reinholdt. Some of you may remember him, some not. He's got nothing to do with this particular story even though he was always seen with Siegfried. I just felt like drawing him.

I've got another short rant / lamentation over at the SPWUG Blog Site. This time its on the current nature of video games. Now there's a unique topic on the internet. Aheh.

And finally, in my Nekobakuretsuconathon report I shamefully forgot to mention chilling out with Steve. I hope he can find it in his heart to forgive me... otherwise I shall have to commit sep-mook-ku to save face.

That's all from me for now.
Have a nice weekend, all!
Nekobakuretsuconathon report...athon. November 12, 2007 Posted by Mookie
Whoo, I did it. Two conventions in two weeks. NEKOCON and BAKURETSUCON are behind me and now it's smooth sailing until my next convention, which is next month.

Nekocon was a blast, as usual. I missed this convention last year after having gone for a number of years and it was great to be back. The convention center was packed with a fascinating variety of geeks, I got to meet a whole bunch of my wonderful readers (hello again!) and it was great to see a whole bunch of my old friends again... including Garth, Dave, Kilika, Jim & Nelly and the always entertaining Brian.

Dominic and Dominic even came to visit me!

Bakuretsucon was another convention I missed last year after having gone for a number of years. It was also great to be back. This is the smallest convention I attend all year with attendees numbering only in the low hundreds, but the people who do attend, combined with the incredible friendliness of the staff and my love of upper New England, make this convention one of my favorites. It was also great to see The Comiku Girls, Patrick, Jekka, Nikki and the always entertaining Steve Bennett.

Whew. That's three conventions in four weeks I've been to.
Time to buckle down and get ready for the New York Anime Festival. Hopefully I won't leave y'all with so much filler next time.

November's Donation Wallpapers should be up this week.
That's all from me for now!
Nekobakuretsuconathon part two. November 7, 2007 Posted by Mookie
On second thought, I think I'll do a double-con-report after this weekend when I get back from BAKURETSUCON. That way I'll have two conventions worth of pictures, links and stories.

Speaking of BAKURETSUCON, I'll be there this weekend. This has always been a fun convention for me and I'm glad to be going back in a few days. They're even letting me do my two nefarious panels, The Dominic Deegan Q&A and Writing Unique Heroes and Memorable Villains. Combine the fun I have at this convention with the fun I have doing these panels and you'll have one happy Mookie. Be sure to stop by and say "hi" if you're in the area!

Unfortunately that means there'll be more crummy filler doodles this weekend while I'm at the con. I tried to buckle down and get extra strips done to cover my absence, but the last two days I've had a serious case of writer's block and it pretty much crippled my extra-strip productivity.

And finally, many of you have asked me as to the status of your book orders. As of today I am completely caught up with all current book orders. If you ordered a book from me, it's in the mail. The rest is in the hands of the United States Postal Service.

That's all from me for now!
Hope to see you at BAKURETSUCON!
*thud* November 5, 2007 Posted by Mookie
It's 2:30am and I just got in from my twelve hour drive back from NEKOCON. I'm way too tired to put up a decent news post or care that daylight savings time has made the strip update an hour early. I'll fix that later.

I'll have a con report tomorrow, and then it's off to BAKURETSUCON this upcoming weekend.

Now I go to bed.
Neko-bound! November 1, 2007 Posted by Mookie
I'm off to NEKOCON today. It's a long drive from Massachusetts to Virginia. Here's hoping I make it there and back again in one piece.

Just a reminder, the next three days are gonna be convention filler doodles. So if you hate this sort of thing, or just hate my filler doodles, come back on Monday. The strip will have resumed then... unless I don't make it back from Virginia in one piece. In which case, maybe I'll finally get my cyborg parts. That'd be awesome.

In any case, hope to see you at NEKOCON!
The farmer in the HELL. October 31, 2007 Posted by Mookie
HAPPY HALLOWEEN EVERYBODY!

I was going to do a holiday picture today of some of the characters in various costumes, but since I'll be putting up filler doodles this weekend I figured I should move the story along as much as possible.

Still, I hope y'all have a Happy Halloween today!
Candy candy candy candy candy.
Nekobakuretsuconathon. October 29, 2007 Posted by Mookie
Hey gang.

This big news today is that I'll be a guest at NEKOCON this weekend. I'll have copies of both SEER'S DIGEST and ECTSASY & EVIL for sale as well as a very limited number of Dominic Deegan scarves. I'll' also be doing a number of panels so be sure to stop by and say "hi" if you're in the area.

The weekend after that I'll be attending BAKURETSUCON, so be sure to stop by and say "hi" if you're in that area, too.

And about a month after all this I'll be a guest at the first ever New York Anime Fest. I'm very happy they put me on the guest list so be sure to stop by and... oh, you get the idea by now.

The downside to all this is all the weekend filler that's going to go up. This weekend there will be, unfortunately, crummy filler doodles by yours truly. As for the weekend after and December, I'll either ask for more fan filler art or con one of my artist friends to do a weekend's worth of either guest strips or filler art. We shall see.

Hope to see you at NEKOCON this weekend!
