Banding together. April 13, 2010 Posted by Mookie
Pre-orders for Dominic Deegan Vol. 5: THE WAR IN HELL will be available tomorrow, along with a special offer for those who do pre-order. More details tomorrow.

If you look over to my Convention Schedule you'll see that I've added a couple of destinations to my "2010 Tour." Be sure to check them out, stop by and say "hi" if you happen to be in the area. Or, if you've never experienced the madness of a convention before, check one of these out! I'm a little biased towards these listed shows, if for no other reason than I'm going to be there. Hee hee.

That's all from me for now.
Rock on!
A belated thank you. April 12, 2010 Posted by Mookie
Pre-orders for Dominic Deegan Vol. 5: THE WAR IN HELL will be up either tomorrow or Wednesday. Keep an eye on the SEER'S CATALOG for more information once I announce its availability!

Last week and the week beforehand I talked all about the great times I had at ICON and ANIME BOSTON respectively. I showed pictures of the people I hung out with and thanked them for making those weekends as memorable as ever, but I realized that I never mentioned two very important people from those two weekends.

Namely Matt Stingone and Nikki O'Shea, who were responsible for inviting me to those two conventions and went out of their way to make sure I was treated far better than I deserve. So, my sincerest thanks to you both for everything. I want you to know that your efforts and generosity are very much appreciated and I wouldn't have had those memorable weekends at all if it weren't for you.

That's all from me for now.
Rock on!
Humpbusting. April 9, 2010 Posted by Mookie
Busting my hump to meet my deadline for The War In Hell.

Enjoyed making fun of emo music in today's comic. Hee hee.

Going to take pre-orders next week, along with updating some neglected pages and my convention schedule.

I are very tired from my busted hump.

That's all from me for now.
Rock on, and have a nice weekend!
Too tired to be a nerd. April 8, 2010 Posted by Mookie
I am especially fond of today's strip. Not only because of the pun that made me groan as I was writing it, but for Gregory's inspirational dead end. I can't tell you how many times I've been in his position while trying to produce, well, anything.

I was originally going to talk about comic books that came out yesterday, namely how great Superman: Secret Origin was, how much fun Red Robin remains, and how infuriatingly and surprisingly awful JSA All-Stars was; but to be honest I'm just way too tired from trying to meet my self-imposed deadline for The War In Hell, for which I will be taking pre-orders next week.

I'll rant and rave later. Now, it's back to work.

That's all from me for now.
Rock on and geek out!
A warped sense of music. April 7, 2010 Posted by Mookie
My thanks go out to the guys at The Warp Zone for graciously hosting me and putting up with my ranting for a little over an hour last night. I was a little delirious after an entire day dedicated to page layout for The War In Hell, but I had a great time and I thank them again for having me on their show.

And yes, it looks like we're getting into a band storyline here. I make no apologies.

Like I said yesterday, other characters who have been out of the spotlight may be showing up in this current arc, and it was great to draw Quilt again after such a long absence. I love putting these two together in any given situation.

That's all from me for now.
Rock on!
Spotlight on... April 6, 2010 Posted by Mookie
As you can see, it's Gregory's turn to get the spotlight for a little while.

I'm excited for this upcoming story, which will also be as relatively long and serious as A Nimmel House was, for a couple of reasons. First, I've missed Gregory and getting to write him is always a pleasure for me. Two, these shorter and lighter tales are a great opportunity to put the spotlight back onto the various characters that were absent during The March Across Maltak, and since Gregory isn't off in a foreign land like Nimmel was, we may be seeing more old friends pop up during Gregory's current adventure.

I hope you'll all enjoy this as much as I already am. Whee!

One last (but not least) thing. I'll be calling in to The Warp Zone tonight to discuss the comic and heroes in general. I certainly hope you folks listen in.
Note to self: Oh lord, I really need to stop making stupid faces when I see a camera. You never know when someone is going to use such a photo as a promotional picture. Yeesh.

That's all from me for now.
Rock on.
Anime Boston busted my brain. April 5, 2010 Posted by Mookie
ANIME BOSTON was fun but exhausting. As you can see I didn't have time to produce a comic for today between preparation for the con and working on The War In Hell book. I'm on my last reserves of energy as I write this, so I'll keep this (relatively) brief for now.

I may be apologizing to Scott Wegener for my inferior portrayal of Atomic Robo, but I want to thank him for being a gracious and awesome table-mate during the exhausting hours of Anime Boston. One day we'll get around to planning "CurmudgeonCon."

I hope Garth had a good stay in the Chateau Mookie for the weekend. It was a pleasure to host him... even if he is an ALBATROSS!

It was lovely to meet you, Lindsay. I'm sorry I was a grouch to you when I worked customer service at that art store. I'm glad you're reading... and Baman Piderman is freaking hilarious.

I also want to thank Jayd for being a great "table neighbor" for the weekend. Her artwork is really solid and I recommend giving it a look-see.

And last but not least, thanks to all of you wonderful readers who came to visit me at the convention. It's always a pleasure to meet you folks in person and you bless me each and every time you come to my table. You're the best readers in the world.

And now it's back to work. Dominic and company return tomorrow.

That's all from me for now.
Rock on.
Anime Boston weekend! April 2, 2010 Posted by Mookie
I'm at ANIME BOSTON for the weekend!

I'll be alongside Scott Wegener and Garth Graham in the Artist Alley, so be sure to look for us there if you want to come and say "hi!"

That's all from me for now.
Rock on and see you at AB!
Nothing to see here. April 1, 2010 Posted by Mookie
I'd considered doing an April Fool's Day comic, but I wanted to get this interlude with Miranda and her extraplanar instructor over with by the end of this week. Having already missed Monday due to ICON, I needed all the days I could get to finish up this short series of comics cleanly. So, no practical joke from me. I'm sure there are plenty of better, funnier examples of April Fool's tomfoolery around the internet today.

I'm gearing up for ANIME BOSTON tomorrow, where I'll be in the Artist Alley alongside Scott Wegener. There ought to be some neat surprises for folks who stop by and say "hi," so be sure that you do!

That's all from me for now.

A sight for sore eye. March 31, 2010 Posted by Mookie
This was a lot more fun to draw than it probably should have been. My love of fantastic, bizarre looking creatures is really starting to take hold of me lately, and getting a chance to flex that part of my brain has become a real pleasure for me lately. I hope you folks like it, too.

Don't forget that I'll be at ANIME BOSTON this weekend. I'll be stationed up in the Artist Alley this year, putting in ungodly hours and being as receptive as I possibly can. I'll be sharing table space with Scott Wegener of ATOMIC ROBO, so be sure to keep an eye out for two aging nerds causing some mischief.

That's all from me for now.
Rock on!
Archmages are mysterious. March 30, 2010 Posted by Mookie
I wonder what mystical things Miranda is up to. If things are unclear to you right now... good. That's the point. Things will become (mostly) clearer as the week goes on. The woman is an archmage after all. She's very mysterious.

I'm still reading through some of your feedback for A Nimmel House. While I likely won't directly reply to your e-mails, rest assured that I'm reading each and every one of them and taking the feedback and critiques to heart as I did with The March Across Maltak. Honestly, I may begin asking for direct feedback like this after every story from now on, as I have found it very helpful.

Speaking of the phrase "from now on," I feel like I ought to clarify something. I may have said that I'll be writing stories on the same scale and length as A Nimmel House "from now on" and that's an incorrect term I used. I didn't mean that I was going to be giving up the lengthy, world-changing tales altogether. I was just taking a very long break from that level of story. I feel like the comic as a whole will benefit from that.

Don't forget I'll be at ANIME BOSTON this weekend!

That's all from me for now.

Photographicon. March 29, 2010 Posted by Mookie
ICON was a blast. As you can see from the photo filler for today I had quite a memorable weekend with some very memorable people.

Alyssa is the best girlfriend ever. I don't know why she keeps putting up with me.

Ananth & Yuko are great friends of mine who live too far away from me. I always have an awesome time hanging out with them, especially when we talk old-school manga and Lovecraftian horror.

Sadly not pictured is my best friend Dave and his wife, Jenny, who graciously housed us all while we were at ICON. You're the man, Dave... but I did tell you that I was going to leave feces all over your walls. Tee hee.

And that's me in the corner making an incredibly stupid face while Sarah Douglas causes a scandal with me. She played just about every bad girl in every movie I ever watched growing up in the 80s, from Superman 2 to Conan the Destroyer to Solarbabies to the original V series, effectively making her my first "bad girl crush." Thankfully I was not disappointed upon meeting a childhood icon of mine (no pun intended), finding her to be a friendly and elegant woman. It took every ounce of willpower in me not to "fanboy out" at her.

This week will have some "interlude" strips, since I don't want to start a new storyline with ANIME BOSTON right around the corner. No rest for a con man.

That's all from me for now.
Rock on!
An iconic ending! March 26, 2010 Posted by Mookie
And thus concludes "A Nimmel House." I promised folks that stories from now on would be shorter and lighter in nature. I hope this one fit the bill and I hope you fine folks enjoyed it. As always, I am eager to hear your feedback.

I don't know why nosebleeds are the conventional implication for sudden, overwhelming attraction to a beautiful woman, but it's funny.

Today I'll be at ICON reveling in the rampant (and wholesome) nerdiness of a science fiction/fantasy convention. Besides being the first convention I ever attended, it's also one of the only shows where I treat myself to something from the dealer's room (where I will be stationed all weekend). Maybe this year I'll finally buy myself a battle axe.

That's all from me for now.
Rock on, geek out, and see you at ICON!
A pep talk from an... ICON. Hee hee. March 25, 2010 Posted by Mookie
I'll be at ICON this weekend! Be sure to stop by and say "hello" if you're in the area. I know I've said this before, but ICON was the first convention I ever attended and, in the long run, is the reason I'm doing conventions today. This good old-fashioned science fiction & fantasy convention holds a special place in my heart so I'll likely be in an extra good mood if you come to see me.

Some great comic books came out yesterday.

Power Girl continues to be one of my favorite titles. It proves you can tell an entertaining superhero story without the heaviness of personal tragedy or crushing inner turmoil. Not to mention I absolutely adore Amanda Conner's artwork.

I'm a sucker for fictional creation myths. The one in Brutal Legend was one of my favorites in video games, and this month's Green Lantern blew me away in explaining the creation of the Emotional Spectrum in relation to Earth and life beginning here. Not to mention I absolutely adore anything color-coded and themed. Blame Voltron.

Deadpool cracks me up. Daniel Way is the best Deadpool writer going these days and I never want him to leave the helm of this title. Hit-Monkey (he's an assassin that's a monkey!) should be a lame concept, but in his hands it works well. Highly recommended.

Orc Stain continues to fascinate me in its own weird, bizarre way. James Stokoe's mean, nasty, dick-obsessed orcs are hardly admirable but One-Eye (the main character) does what he must to survive in the mean, nasty, dick-obsessed world. I especially enjoyed the anguish of the soda can and the "Fist of the North Star" moment, only with a hammer and a... well, guess. This is a unique read and I recommend giving it a look.

That's all from me for now.
Rock on, geek out, and see you at ICON!
The two camps all men fall into. March 23, 2010 Posted by Mookie
My best friend and I have often bonded over the years discussing whether it's better to be a "boob guy" or an "ass man." This is not how we define our relationships with women, mind you, but just the stupid stuff guys like me and my buddy like to talk about every now and again... effectively making us a boob and an ass.

Don't forget I'll be at ICON this weekend! Going to be a good time and I can't wait to be surrounded by an old fashioned sci-fi/fantasy crowd again.

I've been spouting more and more political stuff down here in the news box lately, but I've been trying to cut back. Unfortunately it's impossible to avoid the heated debate over U.S. Healthcare Reform if you even glance at the news lately. I have my opinions on the matter, but they are not as solid as my stance on equal rights, so I will not go into a discussion about it here until I've formed a more concrete position.

This Washington Post article about the Reform Bill has been very helpful, however. It simply states what's going into the Bill without any opinions or debate. It's just the facts so I can form my own opinion. If only more of the major news was like that.

That's all from me for now.
Rock on!
