Whenever Quilt is in his detective gear I'm torn between referring to him as "Detective Quilt" or "Inspector Golem."
I'm at
ANIME BOSTON this weekend! You can find me in the Artist Alley alongside the equally curmudgeonly
Scott Wegener where, despite our hunched backs and scowls, we're actually going to be quite happy to see visitors! So come by and say "hi!"
I'll also be doing my
Writing Unique Heroes & Memorable Villains panel on Saturday, so be sure to get there before the room fills to capacity! It has in the past and, if attendance at
Anime Boston is anything like it has been in the past, it may do so again.
That's all from me for now.
Rock on, and see you at
ANIME BOSTON!
It's tome for a montage!

Still working on stuff before the insanity that is Anime Boston this weekend, and as a result I don't have very many interesting things to talk about down here in the news box.
Oh well.
That's all from me for now.
Rock on.
Bleeding from the face. The whole face.

I was too tired to speak of it in detail yesterday, so here's my quick recap of my awesome time at
Anime St. Louis this past weekend.
- Everyone who came to visit me at my table was awesome.
- The staff treated me like a rock star, spoiling me with peanut butter & jelly delicacies.
- I experienced my first tornado warning during a panel with the incredibly talented
Dirk Tiede.
- I didn't expect my
Writing Unique Heroes & Memorable Villains panel would be so well attended at its 10pm slot. Thanks for coming!
- Tasty sushi is a great way to end a Saturday night, especially alongside Dirk,
Dusty and
that guy with the glasses.
Now it's back to work.
Anime Boston is right around the corner!
That's all from me for now.
Rock on.
Back from St. Louis!

I'm back from
ANIME ST. LOUIS but I got home too late to write a coherent news post about it. In short, I had a marvelous time and everyone who was there was amazing. More on this later.
Now it's time to gear up for
ANIME BOSTON this weekend.
No rest for a con-man.
That's all from me for now.
Rock on.
SHH! Do you smell something?

I'm just going to leave Monday's news post up for the remainder of this week. It's the only news really worth reporting, and this way I won't have to repeat myself.
The big news this week is that I'll be returning to
ANIME ST. LOUIS this weekend! It's been a couple of years since I was last there and all I have are good memories. This is a great convention and if you're in the area I highly recommend stopping by to say "hi."
If you check out the convention schedule just to the right of the news box here you'll see that I've added a couple of other shows I'll be attending this year. Keep an eye out because there may be more coming!
That's all from me for now.
Rock on.
Power levels... rising?!
April 8, 2011

The Beast's power levels are over nine thous-- yeah.
I hope you folks have a nice weekend! I'll be working on DD Volume 6, wedding plans, and hoping the skies are clear around the Boston area so I can get some more stargazing in.
That's all from me for now.
Rock on and have a nice weekend!
It wants to touch my brain!

I think Masutel was living in my head yesterday. The headache I had for most of the day was so splitting that it felt like some alien manta ray creature with claws and pincers was swimming around in my brain meats, slicing a path right behind my eyes. Gah.
I doubt Dominic is going to feel much better when Ara is done with him, much to the contrary of her claims.
Not much other news to report today. Work continues on Two Thief of Not Two Thief: Dominic Deegan Vol. 6 to hopefully be ready to take pre-orders in May, so that's neat. Otherwise... yeah. Slow news day.
That's all from me for now.
Rock on.
Cookie. Monster.

When he's not
speaking for Alduraithel, Archmage of the Fourth Circle, Snert's vocabulary seems to solely consist of the word "cookie." Then again, most people I know can think of little else when they're enjoying a cookie so maybe Snert isn't being so weird.
New comic books hit the shelves today, so keep an eye on
my Twitter feed for entries marked #
ComicBookDay to see my opinions on what I'm reading as I'm reading it.
That's all from me for now.

Less human than human.
April 5, 2011

Astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson once said that he was upset with science fiction films and television because all the aliens looked so "human." As though writers and directors with giant budgets failed to look at the extreme diversity of life on Earth to draw inspiration from and instead just added a different skin tone and some longer ears to a humanoid frame to make an "alien."
I hope to make Dr. Tyson proud with the approach I've taken to every creature Miranda deals with on the scale of an archmage. From M'ur'i, to Alduraithel, to (a lesser extent) the silent hermit on the Planar Pathway, and to the other Circle Archmagi I've made it a point for her acquaintances to be as least human as possible. I think it makes for a more fantastical world in the long run.
That being said, I still love my classic fantasy races. As humanoid as it may look, long ears and tusks rule.
That's all from me for now.
Rock on.
Ambushed.

If you look at the background at the end of the
second Interlude concerning the Beast you'll see that our resident tentacle abomination was, in fact, about to make his move.
For those of you who caught that a year ago, you've got a good eye... er, no pun intended.
Work continues on
TWO THIEF OR NOT TWO THIEF: Dominic Deegan Volume 6, and I hope to have enough pages laid out by
Anime St. Louis or
Anime Boston so I can start taking pre-orders at those shows and online. I could technically start taking pre-orders now, but I'm not comfortable taking payments for something that isn't halfway done yet.
That's all from me for now.
Rock on.
Up and running again.

So as you can see, besides the unfortunate fate of
M'ur'i the comic updated today. I got things up-and-running on a "backup" computer while mine is in the shop... getting the lamest repair ever.
It turns out my computer crash was caused by my graphics card going ka-put. Now anyone who's even moderately tech-savvy will tell you that buying a new graphics card and installing it yourself usually takes under ten minutes. I, on the other hand, decided to take advantage of the protection plan I paid for when I bought my computer and have sent it off to have someone install a new card for me, which should take up to two weeks.
It's ridiculous, I know. But dammit, I paid the cash for that "you guys will fix any problem I have for free" protection plan and I'm using it. Besides, anyone who knows me will tell you I have an uncanny streak of bad luck with electronics. I touch wires and they snap. So I'm keeping my hands far away from the inside of my computer.
Besides, at the most I'm losing two weeks worth of MMO gaming, which I can certainly live without.
That's all from me for now.
Rock on and have a nice weekend!
Nerds in... wait, what's wrong with my computer?
March 31, 2011

I was going to write a news post about Dominic and Luna's enthusiastic reaction and a paragraph or two about nerds in love, but instead I'm going to tell you that tomorrow's comic may be delayed because my computer has suddenly decided to stop working. No signal. No startup. No nothing.
So instead of making a comic for tomorrow I may be running around trying to find a solution to this problem so I can, well, get back to work. I was able to write this news post from another nearby computer in the meantime.
Wish me luck. And if there's no comic tomorrow it's because I spent today bashing my head against a wall.
That's all from me for now.
Rock on.
Flux you, too.

Just a couple of quick bits of news in the wake of today's pun.
- Amon Amarth's new album,
Surtur Rising, is a monster. I highly recommend it.
- New comic books hit the shelves today, so check out my
Twitter feed for what I think of the new comics as I read them!
- Going to be adding a couple of new conventions to the list, so keep an eye out later this week to see where I'll be throughout 2011.
That's all from me for now.
Rock on and geek out.
HUH?!
March 29, 2011

Okay. We're done with this joke. I swear.
I have metal (and hearing loss) on the brain today because Amon Amarth's new album
SURTUR RISING is coming out today and I plan on blasting this album so loud in my apartment that I will likely deafen the whole building.
I just received the unfortunate news that I've been put on the wait list for
Otakon this year. So as with
Katsucon, ICON and
No Brand Con it'll be the first time in a couple of years that I'll be unable to attend a much-beloved convention, unless my spot on the wait list comes up. Cross your fingers.
That's all from me for now.
Rock on.
Gotcha.

While it would have been impressive and bad ass for Dominic to have truly harnessed the power of one of the most mysterious, awesome and destructive beings yet in the comic's known universe... well, I thought this was equally impressive, if not as destructive.
CONBUST was charming. A small convention with great, enthusiastic attendees and incredibly friendly staff who were willing to bend over backwards to treat me much better than I deserved. The numerous panels I did were not only well attended but filled with engaging questions, and my fellow panelists tolerated me on Saturday even as I suffered from numerous cases of foot-in-mouth disease.
I've missed doing conventions, and
CONBUST was a great way to start off the 2011 convention season.
I can't wait for the next show.
That's all from me for now.
Rock on.
