The farmer in the HELL. October 31, 2007 Posted by Mookie
HAPPY HALLOWEEN EVERYBODY!

I was going to do a holiday picture today of some of the characters in various costumes, but since I'll be putting up filler doodles this weekend I figured I should move the story along as much as possible.

Still, I hope y'all have a Happy Halloween today!

Nekobakuretsuconathon. October 29, 2007 Posted by Mookie
Hey gang.

This big news today is that I'll be a guest at NEKOCON this weekend. I'll have copies of both SEER'S DIGEST and ECTSASY & EVIL for sale as well as a very limited number of Dominic Deegan scarves. I'll' also be doing a number of panels so be sure to stop by and say "hi" if you're in the area.

The weekend after that I'll be attending BAKURETSUCON, so be sure to stop by and say "hi" if you're in that area, too.

And about a month after all this I'll be a guest at the first ever New York Anime Fest. I'm very happy they put me on the guest list so be sure to stop by and... oh, you get the idea by now.

The downside to all this is all the weekend filler that's going to go up. This weekend there will be, unfortunately, crummy filler doodles by yours truly. As for the weekend after and December, I'll either ask for more fan filler art or con one of my artist friends to do a weekend's worth of either guest strips or filler art. We shall see.

Hope to see you at NEKOCON this weekend!
Oni-Con. October 24, 2007 Posted by Mookie
Despite airline screw-ups and the fact that I arrived super late on Friday, ONI-CON was a blast. This was the second year I'd attended and it was well worth the trip to fly all the way back down to Texas for it.

If you want the full details of my travel horror story, check out the SPWUG blog.

I was there with the usual group of Texas troublemakers, including Xero, Juno and Myk. I wish I could've hung out with Aaron and Amelie for more than ten seconds, but that's a con for you. Good times to be had all around, though.

Thanks to everyone who stopped by and said "hi." Thanks to everyone who came to my Writing Unique Heroes & Memorable Villains panel. Thanks to these two who were nice enough to cosplay as Dominic and Luna. Thanks to Liz for making me cookies.

I hope I get to go back again next year.

Next conventions up are NEKOCON and BAKURETSUCON within one week of each other. Gonna be a busy month.
My stupid odyssey. October 22, 2007 Posted by Mookie
This strip gives me the willies because I drew it while I was stranded at the airport in Detroit for seventeen hours and seeing it again reminds me of that horrible night. Guh.

Otherwise ONI-CON was a blast. I'll have a con report with links and pictures up tomorrow, complete with the reason why I was stuck in Detroit for seventeen freaking hours.

Right now I need to catch up on some much-needed sleep.

Seventeen hours.
Blech.
Fan Filler Weekend! October 19, 2007 Posted by Mookie
The next three days will have fan art instead of a strip while I'm at ONI-CON. As always I received some fantastic submissions and it was really hard to pick just three. The ones I didn't select to fill in for the comic will go up in the Fan Art pages, which I will update next week.

Enjoy the art!
Oni-Con and poor Aquaman October 18, 2007 Posted by Mookie
I'm getting on the plane to Houston for ONI-CON and I'm pretty psyched. I'll have copies of both SEER'S DIGEST and ECSTASY & EVIL available there, I'll be doing my nefarious Writing Unique Heroes & Memorable Villains panel (which I'm going to stop doing come 2008) and I'll be hoping some of you lovely peoples come by and say "hello" to yours truly.

As far as comic books go this week, I wasn't really happy or impressed with the titles I picked up so I'm just not going to mention them. I don't like spreading a lot of negativity around, and I figure not talking about them does as much damage as bashing them.

I will, however, express my disappointment over Aquaman: Sword of Atlantis being canceled. That book had such promise when it began, and I was hoping for an undersea tale of dark magic and shining destiny. Once writers changed it became a tale of goofy science fiction, underwater internet references (I'm not kidding) and the Jar-Jar Binks of superhero sidekicks was introduced. Oh well. Maybe he'll get to shine better as a member of The Outsiders, or maybe I'll hafta make a case for DC to let me write Aquaman. I mean, it's not the worst thing that could happen to the poor guy, right? Aheh.

That's all from me for now.
Hope to see you at ONI-CON!
To Oni-Con and beyond! October 15, 2007 Posted by Mookie
Hey folks.
Sorry there was no Sunday strip up yesterday. Personal life stuff. If you're curious as to what I was up to, well, you can read all about it in my livejournal entry.

Big news this week is that this weekend I'm headed back to Texas for ONI-CON! I'm really excited to be returning to this convention and I hope to see some of you there.

Unfortunately I'll be unable to update the strip this weekend, so I'm calling for yet another addition of Last-Minute Fan Art Filler! I'm looking for three pieces of fan art that have to do with the current storyarc. They can be black-and-white or color. Feel free to slap your name / e-mail / website on the art if you like. I look forward to seeing what y'all can do!

That's all from me for now!
Curse you, real life. October 13, 2007 Posted by Mookie
Hey gang.

I'm in New York for today and most of Sunday dealing with some personal stuff. There may not be a strip up for Sunday, and if there is one it won't be in color since I didn't take my markers with me.

Just giving you a heads-up.
Could it be? Comic Books?! October 11, 2007 Posted by Mookie
I haven't been reviewing comic books in a few months for a couple of reasons. The first was because I was going through some major personal-life changes and talking about comic books was low on my list of priorities. The second is because, quite frankly, the state of the superhero genre is not to my liking.

I talked about it in a rant over at the SPWUG blog site. Everything's a crossover to everything else and every comic is suffering from a severe case of tie-in-itis. In order for me to fully appreciate any sort of story being told these days I have to buy six or seven backup or tie-in titles that fill in the blanks. Guh.

Still, there are two books I picked up yesterday that I believe are worth mentioning through all this crossover mess.

First and foremost is none other than Atomic Robo #1 of 6 written by my nefarious associate Brian Clevinger. I can't say enough good things about this book. Brian is a true lover of comic books and everything that makes them great. Issue one has lots of action, great dialogue, perfect pacing and outrageous super-science. Scott Wegener's artwork is marvelous and he really shines in making a faceless robot really expressive and ultimately likeable. I highly recommend this title.

On the mainstream superhero front... or perhaps I should say timestream superhero front... Booster Gold #3 continued the time-hopping adventures of one of my favorite characters from 52. Booster Gold is a great hero with the worst luck in history. Literally. He has to save the world's greatest superheroes and go down in history as a complete screw up. This is a funny and adventurous title that makes me want to put on tights and be a superhero again. Highly recommended.

That's all from me for now!
I can't think of a clever title for this. October 9, 2007 Posted by Mookie
I am in the process of shipping out the orders for SEER'S DIGEST and ECSTASY & EVIL. I ought to have all orders out by the end of this week. Feel free to keep ordering if you feel inclined to do so. I need to empty out these boxes of books so Rascal can start playing in them.

Don't forget that in about two weeks I'll be returning to Texas for ONI-CON! Be sure to stop by and say "hi." I'll be hanging out in the Artist's Alley this year.

October's Donation Wallpapers are up. I'm always uncertain how strips-turned-into-wallpapers will be received, but a few of you asked for this weekend's color strip as a wallpaper anyway. Plus the one with Spark cracks me up (no pun intended) so I'm taking a chance with these two. I hope you like 'em as wallpapers.

And finally, as you can see just below the wallpapers, I put up a new tracker. I'm not altogether sure how I like it there, but it's a quick and temporary fix. I'm planning on giving the site a makeover before the year is done, so that will do over there for now. Shame I lost all my numbers from previous years, though. Ah well.

That's all from me for now.
Time to start carrying these book orders to the post office.
Demons, Digests and Dorkery. October 5, 2007 Posted by Mookie
Wow. You all seemed to like the layout of yesterday's strip. A lot. So much, in fact, that you left me completely humbled by the kind forum posts and e-mails you sent me. For my part it was a ton of fun playing with the layout. A lot of fun. So much, in fact, that I'm going to finish out the week with similar layouts and torture Milov just a little bit longer. I'm having fun doing it and y'all seem to like it, so why not?

In further good news, the shipment of the second printing of SEER'S DIGEST arrived yesterday afternoon and they look great. I'll be assembling the pre-orders this weekend and sending them out first thing next week. If you haven't ordered your copy yet, now's the time because they're officially back in stock.

There's some convention updates as well! In two weeks I'll be heading down to ONI-CON. Afterwards I'll be making a return to two conventions I missed last year. I was honored to be invited back to both NEKOCON and BAKURETSUCON. If you're in the area for any of these three outstanding conventions, be sure to stop by and say "hi!"

October's Donation Wallpapers ought to be up either this weekend or early next week.

That's all from me for now!
Just another manic Monday. Ooh-whoa. October 1, 2007 Posted by Mookie
Not a whole lot to report this week.

The shipment of SEER'S DIGEST reprints will be arriving in the next few days and all orders will be in the mail by the end of this week.

I will be at ONI-CON again this month, so be sure to stop by and say "hi!" if you're in the area.

Donation Wallpapers for October should also be up by the end of the week, so keep an eye out.

That's all from me for now.
Pfft.
My so-called social life. September 28, 2007 Posted by Mookie
I've been quite absent from the internetz for the past week, barely checking my e-mail and generally being less-than-present. The reason being, now that I'm back in the Boston area, is that I've spent the last few days rebuilding my social life. Is that death for someone who makes his living online? Time will tell. All I know is that it was great to have some human contact with some old friends.

There was a slight problem at the printer, but SEER'S DIGEST was printed and shipped out to me yesterday. I ought to have the books here and ready to be mailed out some time early next week. Thanks to all of you who ordered early.

Be sure to come and say "hi" to me at ONI-CON next month!

Check out the SPWUG Blog Site for my weekly rants. This past Wednesday I posted the recipe for Mookie's World-Famous Stew. Other entries include my displeasure with IMing, my love of metal and my disapproval of the current state of comic books.

That's all from me for now!
Blah. September 24, 2007 Posted by Mookie
Today's strip will be up late.
Was feeling under the weather yesterday.
Will put it up ASAP.
Proof positive! September 21, 2007 Posted by Mookie
I received the proofs for the reprinting of SEER'S DIGEST, approved them and sent them back to the printer. They should be arriving at Mookie HQ sometime in the next week and a half or so.

But you can order your copy now from the Seer's Catalog if you like.

I'm really happy with the reprinting since I went with the same printer that did Ecstasy & Evil. I got to make a few changes from the first printing and added some stuff to make the book look a lot nicer. I do hope you like it.
